Description
The Lodge is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, with its front range dating from the early 19th century and the rear sections from the late 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, creating a complex L-shaped structure. It has two storeys and attics. The front range is constructed of white brick and features a slate roof with overhanging eaves and four pilasters. There are five windows with small-paned sashes set in deep reveals, each with moulded cast iron heads. The entrance has a six-panel door, with the top four panels raised and fielded, and a rectangular fanlight above. Inside, there is a geometric staircase with a curved handrail and plain square balusters.
The rear range is timber-framed and rendered, with a roof that has alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles. It includes an internal chimney stack with a plain white brick shaft and pierced, fluted bargeboards. The casement windows have a single bar across the lights. The section parallel to the front has four bays, two of which are part of a medieval house, while the other two were added along with the internal chimney stack. Both halves of this range have had their roofs raised, with the former having a more significant elevation. The good-quality plain framing is visible throughout, featuring a main beam with scroll-stops and joists set flat. Additionally, there is a further timber-framed section added in the later 17th century, aligned north-south.
