GT ASHFIELD ELMSWELL ROAD Nos 1 and 2 Church Cottages

Two houses, built as one in C17 or earlier. One storey and attics. Probably built with 3-cell lobby-entrance plan, later extended to right. Timber-framed and plastered. Plaintiled roof, the right hand section renewed in concrete plaintiles (formerly thatched). 3 casement dormers: to left is a raking dormer of C19 with C20 casement, and to right two late C20 gabled dormers. To left is an axial C16/C17 chimney of red brick and to right an C18/C19 axial chimney. C20 small-pane casements. A C19 boarded door at lobby-entrance position. Interior not examined.
