Description
Milestone Cottages is a pair of cottages that were originally built as one house in the 17th century, with the possibility of an earlier core. The cottages have a three-cell plan and feature a lobby entrance. They are one storey high with attics and are constructed from timber framing, with much of the plaster dating from the 18th or early 19th century, including some herringbone pargetting in large panels. The roof is pantiled, having been thatched in the past, and there are two 19th-century raking pantiled dormers with casement windows. A 17th-century axial chimney has a plastered base and a sawtooth shaft made of mixed red and buff bricks, while there is also an early 19th-century gable chimney of red brick on the left side. The cottages feature 19th-century casement windows and two boarded doors from the same period. At some point, the right-hand end was extended using timber framing, and the gable end was rebuilt in 19th-century red brick.
