Description
Bedfield Lodge is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century, built in three phases that create an L-shaped plan. The north wing, possibly the oldest part, is slightly lower than the south wing. The building is timber framed, with the south wing plastered on the south and east fronts, while the north wing is faced in colourwashed brick on the east side; both sections are roughcast-rendered at the rear. The roof is covered with plaintiles and the building has two storeys.
The south front features two mid-20th century three-light small-paned casement windows. There is a 19th-century colourwashed brick porch with a crowstepped gable and a mid-20th century standard panelled door. To the left, there is a gable stack with a rendered shaft. The east front, which faces the road, includes a lobby entrance with a notable mid-18th century doorcase that has fluted pilasters, an entablature with an enriched frieze of linked lozenges, and a segmental pediment. The door is a mid-20th century standard panelled door. To the left of this entrance, there is a six-light window on the ground floor and a three-light small-paned window above, both from the mid-20th century. Above these is a heavy stack with a rendered oblong shaft. The north wing has two small mid-20th century casement windows and a gable stack with a rendered shaft. The interior has been modernised, with very little of the original structure visible, and it has not been fully examined.
