Description

Daisy Cottage, originally a farmhouse, dates from the late 16th to early 17th century and is now divided into two dwellings. It features a timber frame, with the front and left gable end covered in pebbledash render, while the rest is plastered. The roof is made of old plain tiles and the building has a three-cell form, standing two storeys high with an attic. The late 19th-century facade is intact, showcasing three windows with four-paned sashes and two matching doorways, each featuring a four-panel door and a gabled hood supported by curved brackets. The hoods have pierced scalloped bargeboards and a spike finial. There is an internal stack with a plain oblong shaft, where the lower portion is original, and a small gable stack to the right. Lean-to additions are present on each gable end.

Inside, No. 1 includes the hall and service end of the original farmhouse, which has undergone mid-20th-century modernization that exposes most of the timbers. It features plain studding with slightly cranked reverse-curved braces, and diamond-mullioned windows have been opened out in the rear wall of the service cell. The hall chamber has an applied plank cornice above the wallplate, and the roof includes clasped purlins and a lower row of triangular purlins, although much of the wind bracing is missing. No. 2, which comprises the parlour end of the farmhouse, is less heavily modernized internally and features an applied cornice in the parlour chamber. This section retains the original newel stair, which consists of two flights.
