Description

Palmer's Bakers and Confectioners Shop is a shop and kitchen with storage above, built in the early 19th century, possibly incorporating an earlier structure. It features painted red brick and a slated roof, with one in four slates arranged in a fishscale pattern; the roof was formerly thatched. There is an axial chimney made of mid-19th century gault brick with red brick quoins. The building has a two-cell plan and stands two storeys tall with three windows. The windows are 19th century small-pane sashes, although one has been replaced by a 20th century cross-casement. There are two 19th century four-panelled entrance doors. At the rear, there is a slated lean-to outshut adjacent to Old Street. Single storey 20th century extensions at either end of the building are not considered of special interest. The shop is included for its group value.
