Description
The Old Forge is a house dating from the late 16th century, representing the parlour block of a larger house, with the remaining part now in separate occupation and not of special interest. It has two storeys with an attic and features a timber-framed and plastered structure. The roof is slated, having originally been thatched, and there is an axial chimney with a rebuilt shaft made of 18th or 19th-century red brick. The windows are small-pane casements from around 1980, and there is a lean-to entrance porch, also from around 1980, which has a glazed panelled door. The building showcases good framing with close-studding, including a diamond-mullioned window at the rear and evidence of additional windows. The floor joists are unchamfered and laid flat. The roof structure consists of coupled rafters, with hip rafters on the right still intact. Inside, there is a large open fireplace made of late 16th-century buff bricks, featuring a cambered lintel.
