Description
Sargents Embrook is an early to mid-18th century building located on London Street. It has two storeys and an attic, with significant distortion to the front due to early subsidence, which has since been consolidated. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring silver grey arches above the first-floor windows, a silver grey brick frieze and cornice with red squares in the frieze, and rusticated painted brick quoins. It has a plain parapet and an old tiled roof, with three gabled dormers. The first floor has five segmental-headed windows that do not have glazing bars. The shop front, which dates from the early 19th century, is plain and features Doric pilasters and a cornice, also without glazing bars. This building was originally the Huntley and Palmer shop. Inside, there is a biscuit oven or fireplace that has been retained but is now boxed in. The northeast roof on the first floor includes an arch-headed corner cupboard with raised and fielded panels. There is a through passage to the south that shows traces of timbering.
