Description
92 London Street is a former townhouse that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century, possibly incorporating elements from an earlier 18th-century structure, and has undergone late 20th-century alterations to the rear and west elevation.
The front, or east elevation, is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond, topped with a cement-rendered parapet. The shopfront features timber construction. The rear, or west elevation, is constructed from darker brown brick laid in stretcher bond, with red brick detailing around the windows. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles.
This three-storey townhouse includes a basement. The principal east elevation is arranged in three bays. The ground floor showcases a late 19th-century timber shopfront with fascia pilasters, capitals, and brackets surrounding two glazed, canted shop windows and a central doorway, which is accessed from street level by a flight of stone steps. At the northern end of the shopfront, there is a separate 20th-century panelled door leading to the upper floors, also accessed via stone steps. The first and second storeys feature three identical bays of six-over-six sash windows, each with gauged red brick lintels, red brick jambs, and painted cills. Above, a broad parapet, which has been cement-rendered, is supported by two hipped roofs, one of which includes a skylight.
The rear west elevation was modified in the 1990s and consists of three bays on each storey. The northernmost bay at ground level has a rear access doorway topped by a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The two ground-floor windows are six-over-six sashes, with similar windows in the three bays on the first and second floors. Each window features red brick jambs and gauged brick lintels. At the parapet level, there is a simple brick dentil cornice that supports the roof eave.
