Description

HOXNE CHICKERING TM 27 NW 3/64 Barn 40m south east of 29.7.55 Chickering Corner Farmhouse (formerly listed with Haywards Farmhouse) GV II Barn. C16. Timber framed and weatherboarded, the roof clad in corrugated metal sheeting. 6 bays, with cart entrance in 4th bay from north, with a porch on the east side. An original partition separates the 2 bays at the north end which were floored over and used as stables: there is evidence for diamond-mullioned windows at both levels. Frame substantially intact, of good quality, most bays with a middle rail. Reversed corner braces. The outer face of the middle rail on the west side is shallow-moulded, a very rare example of decorative work in a barn. In the main part the arched braces to the tie beams have been replaced by knees. Intact queen-post roof with a ridge piece. Lower additions of C18-C19 on each gable end.
