Description
Boars Barn is a former barn dating from the 16th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof covered in corrugated iron. The structure consists of three surviving bays from a larger barn that likely had at least six bays originally extending to the southeast. The barn features intact, closely spaced heavy studding, mostly with a middle rail, and arched braces at the corners, which are halved against the outside of the studs on the original gable end to the northwest. There are cranked arched braces supporting one open tie beam and one original brace on the other side. A cart entrance has been created in the center bay to the north, accompanied by a lean-to porch that dates to around 1700. The barn retains an intact queen-post roof with thin plank-like braces connecting the arcade plates and collars, and it has widely spaced rafters that have likely been re-set.
