Description

Buck's Green Cottage is a house with possible origins in the 16th century, although it underwent significant alterations in the 17th and later centuries, resulting in a small two-cell form. The house has timber framing and plaster walls beneath a pantiled roof. It is one-and-a-half storeys high with two windows, which are modern casements without glazing bars. A 19th-century door has a more recent facing. An internal stack, built of red brick dating to the 18th or 19th century, is a prominent feature. A pantiled rear lean-to is also present. The timber frame is arranged in three bays, with the right bay being a 17th-century addition. Earlier construction details include curved wall braces passing through the floor level, and an arched-braced open truss, mostly removed, immediately to the left of the stack. The stack is a later insertion, with a small newel stair behind it, some of which dates to the 17th century. The structure of the floor and roof is largely concealed.
