Description

BEDINGFIELD TM 16 NE 4/15 Park Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 with C19 alterations. Timber framed and plastered. C19 shallow-pitched slated roof. 2 storeys and attic. A main range with 2-cell cross-wing to right. Various casement windows, some of C18 date. C19 4-panel door in gable end of wing. Internal stack at the junction of the 2 sections, with a cement-rendered shaft. Flat roofed additions to each side of wing. Inside, some of the structure has been exposed: plain studding, joists set flat. Heavier joists to ground floor of wing, probably re-used. The chamber at the front of the wing is open to the roof: here there are 2 blocked diamond-mullioned windows with separate lintols. Chamber of main range has substantial remains of early C17 painted decoration over a former fireplace: a symmetrical design in grey paint, outlined in red, featuring 2 enriched arches. This is an unusual survival. Oak newel stair in 2 flights. Several C17 internal doors. Roof re-uses most of the rafters and purlins of the original.
