Description
Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations, the most recent occurring in the early 19th century. It features a long main range with a service cross-wing on the right that extends to the rear. The building is timber framed and plastered, with the front plasterwork designed to imitate ashlar, while the side walls of the cross-wing and the rear of the main range have older plasterwork. The roof is thatched and the farmhouse has two storeys.
There are various casement windows, with the main range having four three-light first-floor windows, each featuring square-leaded glass in the side lights. To the left, there is an early 19th-century doorway with a moulded architrave that includes corner roundels, a cornice, and a six-panel raised and fielded door. Additionally, there are two more doorways with old boarded doors. A small internal stack is located at the junction of the main range and the cross-wing, while the hall and parlour cells are heated by 18th-century stacks positioned against the rear wall. The left gable end has early 19th-century sash windows, and the service wing has slatted windows on the sides and rear.
At the rear of the main range, there is a lean-to with windows that feature old diamond-leaded glass. The interior has largely remained unaltered since the early 19th century, with most of the structure concealed. There are two 19th-century staircases, and the well stair between the hall and parlour likely replaced a stack. The parlour contains two cupboards with moulded surrounds and corner roundels. The service wing was once detached, but the gap has now been filled by a small stack and a straight stair. The roof over the service wing includes clasped and butt purlins with one-way straight plank wind braces, while the roof over the main range has not been examined.
