Description
Pear Tree Cottages is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. A 20th-century lean-to addition is located on the left side. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof, and consists of two storeys in a three-cell layout. The right-hand cottage was modernised in 1985, featuring new panelled plasterwork and small-paned casement windows. It has an internal stack with a rebuilt shaft and an external stack dating from around 1700 on the left side. The first floor of the right-hand cottage appears to have been reconstructed at a higher level; except for the end bay, the joists are set on edge. There is an open truss with queen posts against the right of the stack, and two windows with ovolo mullions. The interior of the left-hand cottage and the roofspace have not been examined.
