Description

The Old Forge is a house dating back to the 16th century, which was considerably restored in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed and has plaster walls, covered by a pantile roof. The house has two storeys and three windows, featuring mid-20th century diamond-leaded casements. Access is via a lobby with a mid-20th century door and a simple open wooden porch. There's an internal chimney stack with a small, rebuilt shaft, and a further external stack on the left gable end. The interior has been modernised, and the first floor contains heavy joists of unremarkable quality. The first-floor timber frame remains intact and includes many irregular members, as well as reversed and tension braces. Evidence suggests the presence of diamond-mullioned windows in the past. The stack is a later addition, and the original layout is unclear.
