Description

The Worlingworth War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with later additions for the Second World War. It is located at the northern edge of the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I listed building, and is positioned next to the main road through the village.

The memorial features a stone equal-armed wheel-head cross set on a tall, tapering shaft. This cross is placed on a two-stepped base that rests on a square concrete pad within the churchyard.

The main inscription is found on the north face of the upper step, which reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914 – 1919." The ranks, names, and regiments of those who fell in the First World War are listed on the north and south faces of the taller lower step.

On the west face of the upper step, there is an additional inscription: "1939 – 1945. IN MEMORIAM," with the ranks, names, and regiments of those who fell in the Second World War inscribed on the west face of the lower step. Among these names is that of a Police Constable from the East Suffolk Police.
