Description

Oak Farmhouse is an early to mid-17th century farmhouse, built in two or more phases. It consists of a main range with projecting wings on either side, the wing to the right extending to the rear as a full cross-wing. The farmhouse is timber-framed and plastered with remains of old plaster panels featuring ropework pargeting in the recessed central section. The roof is thatched, and there’s a scalloped bargeboard. The building has two storeys and an attic. Most of the casement windows are 20th century replacements with metal frames. The wing projecting to the left has an overhanging gable supported by carved consoles. An internal stack is located at the junction of the main range and the cross-wing. A late 19th-century doorway with a half-glazed door and a trellis porch are on the return wall of the cross-wing. The interior has been altered in the Victorian style. Two main ground floor rooms retain ovolo-moulded cross-beamed ceilings; the hall also features a three-sided ovolo cornice. The parlour chamber has plain studding and evidence of original windows. The remainder of the interior has not been fully examined.
