Description
Pond Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. The building features a brick casing with a datestone reading 'SP 1873' on the left gable end. It is timber framed, with the facade encased and the left gable end rebuilt in white brick. The right gable end is brick-cased and rendered, while the rear is plastered. The roof is covered with pantiles and the house has two storeys and an attic, following a three-cell, lobby entry layout.
The facade includes three mid-20th century standard casement windows with replacement timber lintels. A gabled porch, added in 1873, features a mid-20th century door. Inside, there is an internal stack, with the lower half of the shaft being original, and a 19th-century stack on the outside of the right gable end. Much of the original timber frame remains intact, showcasing reverse-curved braces and evidence of diamond-mullioned windows on both floors and in one gable.
The ground floor has axial bridging beams in all three rooms, with chamfered joists in the hall and plain joists elsewhere. There is no evidence of original partitioning on the first floor above the hall and service end. The roof structure includes clasped and stepped butt purlins with cranked wind braces. One collar is supported by a central post from the tie beam, and there is evidence of another collar that has since been removed, both dating from the 17th century. The newel stairs have a lower flight that was rebuilt in the 19th century.
