Description
The Hollies is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later modifications that include an early 18th century addition on the right, creating a single long range. The building is timber framed, with a plastered facade; the central portion is cased in brick and slightly set forward, while the rear features some red brick. The roof is pantiled, with black tiles at the front. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with four irregularly spaced windows. On the right, there are sash windows with glazing bars in flush frames, while the left side has large-paned sashes on the ground floor and 3-light casements on the first floor. The doorway is asymmetrical, featuring a 19th century half-glazed door, panelled reveals, and an open gabled porch supported by heavy rustic timber posts. The building has a wooden eaves modillion cornice and an internal stack made of white brick. A portion of an 18th century doorcase with slender engaged fluted columns has been repurposed as a mantlepiece on the first floor. The staircase features a newel post, and one first floor room showcases exposed joisting. The roof structure includes two rows of butt purlins, with those at the later end staggered.
