Description
Home Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped by a half-hipped pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and a three-cell layout. Mid-20th century casement windows have been installed. The entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed. There is an internal stack, along with a later stack at the service end that has a square shaft. A single-storey lean-to is attached to the right gable end.
The timber frame displays widely-spaced studding, which is exposed on the upper floor. The ground floor joists are plain, and there is original trimming for ladder stairs at both the service and parlour ends. All floors seem to be integral with the structure. A cambered tie beam spans the hall, supported by one of a pair of short heavy arched braces connected to the wallposts. Evidence suggests there were originally two three-light windows on the first floor at the service end, featuring large chamfered and diamond mullions. The later stack replaced a stud and plaster flue in the same location. A newel stair is located by the stack, while the roof has not been examined.
