Description
Montalbo is a house built in the early 19th century. It has a timber-framed structure with a roughcast finish and a machine-made plain tiled roof. The house features an internal end chimney on the left, with the lower part made of red brick and the upper part of gault brick. It is two storeys high and has three windows with small-pane sashes. The entrance door has six panels and is framed by a well-crafted entablature that includes an open moulded pediment, cornice, and fluted half-round pilasters. The doorway is positioned off-centre, indicating the possibility of an earlier core.
Attached to the house are mid-19th century cast iron gates and railings that sit on a low wall made of gault brick, topped with weathered cast iron copings. The railings feature spear-head standards at one meter intervals, supporting two horizontal rails, with vine-scroll brackets attached to each standard. Shorter standards are placed at mid-span.
