Description
Ellesmere House and Beyton Antiques is a pair of houses and a shop dating from the early 17th century. The building has one storey and attics, arranged in a three-cell plan. It features timber framing and plastering, with Beyton Antiques displaying 19th-century scratched imitation ashlarwork, while Ellesmere House has 19th-century panels with herringbone pargetting; the lower panels are from the mid-20th century. The roof is made of concrete plain tiles and includes four flat-headed dormers, one with a mid-19th-century sash window and the others with 20th-century casements. There are two axial chimneys, one with a rebuilt shaft of 19th-century gault brick and the other of 20th-century red brick. The building has mid-20th-century small-pane casements, two shop windows, and a half-glazed panelled door, all from the 20th century. The 17th-century framing is partially exposed and includes two open trusses, one of which features a tiebeam with a deep cranked archbrace. The entire structure was formerly an inn known as The Bull.
