Description
MENDLESHAM OLD MARKET STREET TM 16 NW 7/64 No.20 (formerly listed 29.7.55 as Premises occupied by Mr Pyatt, Back Street)
GV II Originally cross-wing of substantial house which extended to west, now a separate dwelling. C15 or early C16. Timber framed and plastered, plaintiled roof. 2 storeys. End-jettied to road with original brackets. Small-paned casement windows. Old plank door. Internal stack with cross-axial shaft. Small plastered lean-to on right. Interior. Front wall below jetty has blocked 2-light former shop window, one light retaining 3-centre arched head. Probable shop doorway adjacent is present front entrance. Blocked arched doorway in west wall. Intact studding on upper floor; one blocked window with square mullions. Knee-braced chamfered floorbeam in ceiling of ground floor. Stack is a later insertion. Roof not examined.
