Description
No. 10 Front Street is a 17th-century house that features a timber frame and rendered exterior, designed to imitate ashlar stone. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the building has two storeys plus an attic. It has three windows on the upper floor, which are 19th-century two-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a four-light casement window and to the right, an early 19th-century canted shop window with 30 small panes and a modillion cornice. The entrance door is from the 19th century and has four moulded panels. The house also has two gabled dormers.
Inside, the structure displays plain studding with some reused components, and the main posts have pronounced jowls. The ceiling on the ground floor features an ogee stop-chamfered floor beam and square oak joists. The original upper ceiling has joists set flat and is likely made from reused materials. There is an open fireplace on the ground floor, while the roof timbers are concealed.
