Description

Milestone Number 67 is located outside Avenue Lodge in Chantry Park and dates from 1862. This cast iron milestone was made by E.R and F Turner and follows the design of earlier 19th-century milestones found around Ipswich. The upper surface is inscribed with "Sproughton to London 67," while the splayed sides display the distances to Ipswich (2 miles), Woodbridge (9 miles), Colchester (16 miles), and Chelmsford (38 miles). It is part of a series of milestones that were installed as replacements for earlier stones by the Ipswich-Southtown (Great Yarmouth) Turnpike Trust.
