Description
This is a cast iron milestone located on Woodbridge Road East, outside Mann Egertons Garage. It was cast by J Garrett in 1818. The upper surface is inscribed with "Rushmere to London 71," while the splayed sides display the distances to Yarmouth (52 miles), Woodbridge (5 miles), Ipswich (2 miles), and Colchester (20 miles). This milestone is part of a series that were established as facings to earlier stones by the Ipswich Southtown (Great Yarmouth) Turnpike Trust.
