Description
The Rushmere St Andrew War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected by Messrs Frewer and Moss and unveiled on 11 April 1920 by Lieutenant-Colonel F W Turner. It is made of pale grey granite and is located in St Andrew’s churchyard, to the south of the Grade II* listed church.
The memorial features a plain Celtic cross with a tapering shaft that is supported by a tapering plinth, which has a two-stepped base. The inscription on the east face of the plinth reads: "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918," followed by 18 names. The upper step bears the inscription "FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH." Additionally, eleven names are inscribed on the south face of the plinth, while ten names are on the north face.
