Description
Laceys Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the later 16th century and around 1970. The building is two storeys high and originally featured a two-cell cross-passage plan. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, topped with a hipped thatched roof that has an internal chimney made of red brick. The windows are 20th-century casements with leaded lights, and there are 20th-century boarded entrance doors. Inside, the timber framing is of good quality and fully exposed. Notable features from the first phase include a blocked cross-passage doorway with a four-centred arched head, and a pair of service room doorways, one of which is complete. There are also several blocked diamond-mullioned windows. A parlour cell was added in the later 16th century, showcasing exceptionally close studding and moulded mullioned windows, along with a chimney inserted between the hall and parlour that features back-to-back open fireplaces. The left-hand cell was modified in the 19th century, with oak framing introduced around 1970. Additionally, a projecting wing was added during the restoration around 1970.
