This is a milepost located in front of number 245 on High Street in Southtown and Gorleston, dating from 1828. It is made of cast iron and features a triangular shape that tapers into a flat top. The milepost has inscriptions indicating distances to various locations: Gorleston to London 121 miles, Yarmouth 2 miles, Nelson's Monument 3 miles, Ipswich 52 miles, and Lowestoft 7 miles. It also bears the maker's stamp, which reads: "J. Garrett Iron Foundry, St Margaret's, Ipswich, 1828."
