Description
Southtown and Gorleston Methodist Church is a Methodist church built in 1868 and extended in 1901. It is constructed of red brick with a gault brick facade and features a slate roof. The church is a single storey with a facade divided into three bays. The central bay is slightly projected and includes double-leaf, two-panelled doors set within a stuccoed doorcase that has foliate consoles supporting the hood. On either side of the door are round-arched windows with glazing bars, set within recesses and featuring gauged arches. The corners of the building are accentuated by clasping pilasters, which rise above the doorcase to a moulded cornice that encloses a date plaque reading "Methodist Church 1868." The roof is gabled. The returns of the building have four bays, each marked by a gault-brick pilaster strip and containing round-arched windows with glazing bars. An extension to the east, built of red brick with gault brick dressings and under a slate roof, was added in 1901. The interior has not been inspected.
