Description
Koolunga House is a house, dated 1826, and now divided into flats. It is constructed of gault brick with slate roofs. The building is two storeys with a six-window front. The east front is characterised by two bays on either side of a three-storey bow window. The bow window contains the main entrance, framed by a pair of Greek Doric columns supporting a segmental entablature. The double-leaf door is set within a reeded doorcase, flanked by side lights, and topped by a plain overlight. Two 3/3 sash windows are present on each floor of the bow, set within rendered gauged arches. A datestone reading "J.G. 1826" is located at the first floor. The bow window rises to a shallow copper dome. The two bays to either side also feature two 3/3 horned sash windows on each floor, similarly set within rendered gauged arches. A single-storey bay has been added to the left, incorporating a balcony. A platband runs between the floors, and an eaves cornice with paired mutules is also visible. The roof is hipped. The north return has three bays, with a central doorway blocked and replaced with a window. It features 6/6 horned sashes. The south return has two two-storey bow windows with French doors to the ground floor and tripartite sashes above, incorporating 6/6 and 2/2 glazing bars. The west elevation has 20th-century additions. Internally, the building was modernised during conversion to flats in the 1990s. A stick-baluster staircase remains, with renewed square newels.
