Description

This is a milepost located on the northern verge of the Ardleigh Harwich Road, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a milestone behind it. The milepost has a triangular shape, with a flat head that displays the distance to various locations: Ardleigh to London 57 miles, Harwich 15 miles on the left side, and Colchester 6 miles on the right side. The lower figures are partly buried. It is marked with the label of Bendall Iron and Brass Founders from Lawford, dated 1834. This milepost is part of a series of similar structures.
