Description
Bargates Farmhouse is a 17th century or earlier house located on Bargates Lane in Dedham. It features a timber frame that is clad in painted weatherboards and is oriented east to west. The south front has three bays with a central red brick chimney. The ground floor includes a door in a wooden case and modern windows, one on the first storey and one on the ground storey, both symmetrically placed. The roof is ridged, gabled, and covered with peg tiles. There is a 19th century brick wing at the north-west, creating an L-plan layout. An underbuilt jetty is visible on the east end wall, suggesting that there may have originally been a front jetty on the north elevation.
