Description

Bounds Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th or 18th century, possibly with earlier origins. It is constructed of red brick featuring black headers and decorative diapering. The roof is hipped and covered with red tiles. The building has tall chimney stacks on both the left and right, which include bands and pilasters. It stands two storeys high with attics and has two hipped dormers topped with finials. The façade features a two-window range of tripartite small paned vertically sliding sashes set under gauged arches. The central entrance consists of a four-panel, two-light door with a moulded surround, topped by a flat canopy supported by circular columns. Daniel Cooper, a yeoman, resided here in 1796, as noted by F.H. Erith in "Ardleigh in 1796," published in 1978.
