Description

This is a milepost located on the north verge next to Ardleigh Cemetery, dating from around 1834. It is made of cast iron by Bendall and covers an 18th-century milestone. The milepost has a triangular shape, with the left side indicating Harwich is 16 miles away and the right side showing Colchester is 6 miles away. The central panel is curved and broached, featuring a lower label that reads "Bendall Iron and Brass Founders, Plough and Machine Makers, Lawford, Essex 1834."
