Description
This is a milepost located on the north verge next to Ardleigh Cemetery, dating from around 1834. It is made of cast iron by Bendall and covers an 18th-century milestone. The milepost has a triangular shape, with the left side indicating Harwich is 16 miles away and the right side showing Colchester is 6 miles away. The central panel is curved and broached, featuring a lower label that reads "Bendall Iron and Brass Founders, Plough and Machine Makers, Lawford, Essex 1834." It also notes that Ardleigh is 56 miles from London. This milepost is part of a series.
