Description
The Lion Inn is a public house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions. It features a timber-framed structure that is rough rendered with brick facing, topped by red plain tiled roofs. The building has a dentilled eaves cornice and includes rear wings and chimney stacks. The front has a three-window range of small-paned, vertically sliding sash windows, with pentice boards at the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a four-panel, two-light door with a simple surround. George Biggs was the innkeeper in 1796, as noted in F.H. Erith's "Ardleigh in 1796."
