Description

This is a 19th-century milepost located on the northeastern verge at the junction of Bradfield Harwich Road and Station Road. It is made of cast iron and covers an 18th-century milestone. The milepost has a triangular base that tapers to a flat top with a curved head. The head displays the distance from Bradfield to London as 63 miles. The left side panel indicates a distance of 9 miles to Harwich, while the right side panel shows 12 miles to Colchester. Part of the inscription on the original milestone is still visible, reading "LXIII TO ......." This milepost is part of a series that includes another one located in Manningtree.
