Description
The Gate House and entrance gatepiers to Chantry Park is a monumental structure made of white brick and stone, designed in a small temple style that reflects free classical architecture. It likely dates from the mid-19th century, around the same time as alterations to Chantry Park. The building features paired banded corner pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a pediment at the front. There is a central 8-panel door flanked by small side windows, which also has a pediment supported by console brackets. Above the doorway, a series of windows is separated by inverted consoles. The side elevation includes two windows with rusticated surrounds and voussoired heads.
The entrance gateway to the park is set back from the road and is flanked by low brick walls that curve concavely, topped with stone coping and wrought iron railings between consoles. The heavy wrought iron gates, dating from the mid-19th century, are supported by four square stone rusticated piers, each with cornices and decorative friezes. The larger central piers feature carved faces on their fronts, while the outer piers are topped with ball finials.
