Description
The Non-Conformist Cemetery Store, located in the Old Cemetery, was originally a chapel built in 1855 by Coope & Peck in the Gothic revival style. The structure features flint cobbles with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs, characterized by coped gables, moulded kneelers, and cross finials. It has a chamfered plinth and diagonal and angle buttresses with set offs and quoins, as well as plain bands. The building is designed in a T-plan layout.
A central projecting gabled porch includes a pointed and moulded doorway with double plank doors that have ornate iron hinges. The side elevations are adorned with single 2-light moulded and chamfered windows. The main gable front features a pair of 2-light pointed arch windows with tracery above the porch, set in chamfered surrounds with hood moulds and label stops, and alternating painted flint and ashlar voussoirs. The gable walls of the cross wing have larger 3-light pointed arch windows that are similar in style. At the north-west return angle, there is a short square tower topped by a moulded and coped parapet. This building is included for its group value only.
