Description

The Priory Gateway and walls of enclosure, located off Hoo Road in Letheringham, date from the late 15th century or 16th century, with the walls being of various dates. The structure is built of red English bond brick with black headers and features a pantile roof. It stands two storeys tall.

On the south face, there are polygonal buttresses at the corners. The central double chamfered gate arch has 19th-century brick infill in Flemish bond and a cambered-headed doorway. Above the gate arch, there is a window that has been blocked with 18th-century brick, and above that is a three-light Perpendicular window with chamfered brick mullions and a four-centered arched head. A gable covers the tops of the polygonal buttresses. To the right, there is a range of 19th-century farm buildings that are not included in this listing. The right side of the gateway features a niche at the center, while the left side has offsets at the same level as those on the polygonal buttresses but is otherwise blank.

The north face also has polygonal buttresses on either side and a blocked gate arch at the center, similar to the one on the south front. There are two blocked rectangular windows on the first floor, one to the right and one to the left.
