Description

Godwins Place is a house dating from the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century. It is timber-framed, covered with a colourwashed brick skin, and has a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys with an attic.

The entrance front features a projecting wing on the right, which includes a tri-partite sash window on both the ground and first floors, along with a two-light attic window. In the re-entrant angle between this wing and the main range is a canted bay that serves as the entrance porch. This porch is built of 19th-century brick and has a shallow-pitched lead roof. To the left of the porch is another 19th-century canted bay that contains a central tri-partite window on both the ground and first floors, with additional similar windows at the left-hand angle. To the right of this bay are a two-light window on the ground floor and a similar window on the first floor. At the left of the canted bay on the ground floor, there are a three-light and a two-light casement window.

At the ridge of the main range, there is a 19th-century brick stack with two flues, rebuilt in the 19th century and positioned to the right of centre. The projecting wing on the right has a ridge chimney stack. On the right-hand side of the house, there are two tri-partite sash windows on the ground floor and two two-light casements on the first floor.

At the rear, there is a gabled wing on the left with a central stack featuring two flues and a single-light attic window to the left of this stack. To the right, there is a sash window with three panes by three panes, a doorway to the left of centre, and two two-light and one three-light casement windows to the right. The first floor has a three-light casement and two two-light casements. The interior does not reveal any visible timbers.
