Description
Nos. 15 and 16, The Green, are a pair of estate cottages built around 1850. They are constructed of red brick with white brick dressings and feature a raised brick course at the first floor level. The cottages have mid-20th century concrete plaintiles and are designed in a picturesque style. They are symmetrical to the green, with a hipped-roof block that is set forward. The buildings are two storeys high and have two windows each, which are mullion and transom casements set under segmental arches; only the original lead lattice cames remain in the upper part of each light. The upper windows are gabled half-dormers. Each recessed section of the facade has a shallow arched doorway with a boarded door. There is a central rectangular stack made of yellow brick with grouped flues, and a second matching stack is located at the rear. These cottages are included for their group value as part of the model village of estate workers' cottages built around the green for Sir Morton Peto, designed by John Thomas. They are almost identical to Nos. 5 and 6, The Green.
