Description
Nos. 21 and 22 on The Green are a pair of estate cottages built around 1850. They are constructed of red brick with a raised brick course at the first floor level and feature a roof made of mid-20th century concrete plain tiles. The cottages have a picturesque style and an asymmetrical form, with a gable on the right that is slightly set forward. They are two storeys high and have mullion and transom casement windows beneath flat arches, with the original lead lattice cames still visible in the upper part of each light. There are two gabled half-dormers and two doorways: one at the front and one in the right side wall, both of which have lean-to open porches and boarded doors. The cottages also have two stacks with grouped flues, mostly arranged in a diamond pattern. These cottages are included for their group value as part of the model village of estate workers' cottages built around the green for Sir Morton Peto, designed by John Thomas.
