Description
No. 18, 19, and 20 The Green are a row of three estate cottages built around 1850. They are constructed of pale yellow brick and feature a roof made of mid-20th century concrete plain tiles. The cottages are designed in a picturesque style with a symmetrical appearance facing the green, highlighted by two gables that are set forward. The buildings are two storeys high and have four windows, which are mullion and transom casements set under cambered arches; only the original lead lattice cames remain in the upper part of each window. The front gables include four-light canted bays on the ground floor, also with concrete plain tile roofs. There are two gabled half-dormers in the center and three boarded entrance doors, with two located in the inner returns of the projecting wings. All gables feature shaped bargeboards, and there are four chimney stacks with grouped flues, mostly arranged in a diamond pattern. These cottages are included for their group value as part of the model village of estate workers' cottages built around the green for Sir Morton Peto, designed by John Thomas.
