Description

Ocean Strand is a house built as a seaside villa around 1840. It is constructed of red brick with gault brick dressings and features a hipped slate roof with two rebuilt stacks.

The exterior has two storeys, with the entrance elevation facing north and consisting of three bays. This façade is defined by four plain pilasters on a plinth course and includes a cornice. The central entrance has a six-panelled door with a plain overlight, set in a panelled doorcase that rises to a hood supported by large scrolled consoles. On either side of the door are one-over-one unhorned sash windows with margin glazing, and there are three similar sashes on the first floor. Each window is topped with a wide hoodmould on label stops that contain sliding louvred shutters. A scalloped fascia board runs under the eaves and continues along the east front.

The east front features two bays, also articulated by three plain pilasters on a plinth and with a cornice. The ground floor has two unhorned sash windows, the left one having additional glazing bars. These windows also have sliding louvred shutters beneath wide hoodmoulds on label stops, similar to the north elevation. A full-width timber balcony on the first floor is supported by three circular cast-iron pillars. Two French doors lead out to the balcony, both equipped with sliding louvred shutters under hoods on label stops.

The interior has not been inspected.
