Description

The water pump located on Town Steps in Aldeburgh is a communal feature dated 1840. It was manufactured by Garrett & Son from Leiston, Saxmundham, Suffolk. The pump is made of cast iron and stands on a partly rendered brick cistern. Its design resembles an unfluted Roman Doric column with a slight curve (entasis) and a simple square capital. The pump includes a cast-iron handle and a water spout, with a cast plate above the spout that displays the manufacturer's name and date.
