Description
Saxtead Mill is a late 18th-century post windmill that has undergone significant modernization in the 19th century. It was restored between 1957 and 1960, during which the buck was completely rebuilt. The mill features a painted brick roundhouse and a timber-framed, weatherboarded buck, with four patent sails and a fantail mounted above the external steps. Both the roundhouse and the buck have three floors. The internal machinery is complete and in working order, making it a particularly fine example of a post mill and an outstanding local landmark. The mill is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
