Description

York Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with the section to the left of the stack being slightly later than the rest. There is a mid-20th century extension at the rear. The building is timber framed with roughcast render and a slated roof, standing two storeys high with an attic. It has a two-cell plan and features two mid-20th century large pane casement windows. The doorway is asymmetrical and has a mid-20th century boarded door, with a central internal stack. There is a diamond leaded attic window on the right-hand gable end. Inside, the cottage showcases fine exposed timbering, closely-spaced studwork, and chamfered joists in the later section. It retains original attic floorboards and a good exposed roof structure, which includes clasped and butt purlins with arched wind bracing.
