Description

Farmhouse. The main range of this farmhouse dates to the 15th century, with a later addition built in the mid-16th century to the south and a service range added in the late 16th or early 17th century, creating an L-shaped plan. Construction is timber-framed, with some areas plastered, others roughcast rendered, and red brick casing on the gable end of the oldest section. The roof is pantiled. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a disused attic to the south of the main range. It has various casement windows, mostly from the 20th century. A doorway is located at the angle where the two ranges meet, marking the former position of a cross passage within the original house. It features a 19th-century four-panel door with the upper two panels glazed, and an open porch. There are two internal stacks, one serving each range. The oldest section contains a moulded and crenellated dais beam and a similar beam in the cross passage. The original truss spanning the two-bay open hall has been cut through to create a passage. A good octagonal crown post with a moulded base and cap remains.
